Fun & Creativity Promote Learning

Kindergarten Readiness

Our kindergarten readiness curriculum coincides with readiness standards set by the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) and CFISD. Our academics focus on pre-reading skills such as alphabet sounds, initial consonants, rhyming, and sight word recognition and math skills such as one-to-one correspondence, patterning, subitizing, and number relationships, science exploration and STEM are also emphasized.

Music & Motor

Each class visits Music & Motor every day. During this time, children build their gross motor skills through dancing, coordination exercises, and motor planning activities.  Music & Motor also supports early reading skills by introducing rhyming and retelling skills. Most of all, the children have FUN while singing and dancing in Music & Motor class!

Bible

Our children are taught that God loves them! Teachers use Bible stories or characters to teach lessons about love, forgiveness, friendship, and faithfulness.  Our Bible curriculum is designed to foster the growth of each child and build a stronger relationship with our loving God.

Literacy

We work on literacy skills in almost every play-based activity at CUMCP.  Children build pre-reading skills by having a language rich classroom full of books and environmental print. Motor skills are developed by building handing strength with simple manipulative toys and playdough, constant access to crayons, scissors, and paintbrushes.  Creating artwork on a vertical plane works to strengthen those arm muscles too!

Mathematics

Children learn early math skills through simple, but intentional, activities such as stacking blocks, learning shapes, and recognizing patterns. We work daily on these activities reinforcing math skills such as rote counting, 1 to 1 correspondence, and recognizing and writing numerals.  Geometry skills are taught through recognizing shapes, measurements and data collection through every day exploration and processes, and simple addition and subtraction is practiced with manipulatives.

Play

Play based learning is essential to development, and all children need free, unstructured time to explore and investigate their surroundings.  We provide this through our center time activities and daily playground time. In our centers, children learn about balance, cooperation, cause & effect, develop fine motor skills, strengthen their gross motor coordination, have sensory rich experiences, and practice early reading skills. Research shows that children's brains are wired for play, and providing these opportunities every day develops their thinking.
